With the passage of the 18th Amendment on December 18th, 1917, and the closing of the saloons shortly thereafter, many people began to feel the "Prohibition Blues."  To remedy this situation, organized crime began to supply a demand that was still a very big part of a growing society.  To combat the legalities came the underground version of the saloon called the "speakeasy" which harbored politicians, ministers, policemen and of course city officials.   Across the Nation, cities divided and people took sides.  Chicago, a city once glimmering with Industrial 
opportunities took on a new shine 
that blinded even the most honest
