Within Chicago the divisions became more prominent.  On one side were the "wets", those who did not support Prohibition, and on the other side were the "drys", those who did support Prohibition. Both sides made countless pleas to the government in hopes of resolving the issue to their favor.  The "wets" went against the rules and regulations and made a mockery of the law stating that on any given night the speakeasy would be filled to capacity with the very ones who put the law into effect.  The "drys" argued in behalf of humanity and in behalf of WWI to uphold this new law to its furthest extent.  With each side creating  its own diversion, the city
slowly became a paradise that
allowed the innovative to thrive.
