Day 4:
OBJECTIVE: Students will research and write a paper that compares
and contrasts Third Reich governmental policies with governmental policies that
are in place within Modern Germany today. This cross analysis should focus
on the Dictatorial powers given to Hitler; what events led up to his power; and
the effects that his power had on the Republic. From these conclusions, a
cross analysis should then be dedicated toward governmental policies that are in
place within Modern Germany today. What steps have been taken to assure
that certain aspects of the Third Reich and the power granted to one person are
a non-negotiable today. What principles are evident within the Modern
German Government that guard against anything that takes the power away from the
people and instills it in the hands of only a few.
This paper should be no longer than 5 double spaced pages.
Day 5:
OBJECTIVE: Students will debate and openly defend their research findings
in an open forum setting.
1. Students should be given class time to debate, discuss and utilize
their classmates as a sounding board for their cross analysis papers.
2. If the teacher chooses, the research papers can be a two person
project where each student takes one aspect of the paper (Third Reich or Modern
German Governmental Institutions) and brings them together in a cross analysis
format.
3. This approach can be used to create larger groups (All students
researching Third Reich and All students researching Modern Germany can become a
group).
4. Have students use class time to discuss, debate and defend.
